Få så den finger ud!

Jeg er på absolut ingen måde imponeret over fordelingen mellem cykler, scootere og motorcykler i Geneve. Faktisk synes jeg, det er tæt på en katastrofe. Altså biltrafikken er også håbløs, så derfor forstår jeg godt, at folk vælger at køre på scooter eller motorcykel ind til byen. Så kan de i hvert fald komme frem. Og jeg er også med på, at her er bakker, og at det om sommeren kan være en hed og svedig oplevelse af cykle.

Folk er dovne og komfortable. Ok.

Men for h**** der er altså nogle politikere eller lignende, der snart skal tage et ansvar for, at folk tvinges til at cykle! Bare se på billedet. Der er 717 parkeringspladser til scootere og motorcykler overalt i byen, mens man som cyklist skal bruge 5 minutter på at finde et sted at parkere sin cykel. Og det vel at mærke, hvis man har overlevet cykelturen gennem byen. Cykelstier er nemlig heller ikke noget, man har gjort det store i byplanlægningsmæssigt. Hvis man er heldig, så ligger man som cyklist og pisser rundt mellem taxier, busser, sporvogne, biler og motoriserede tohjulede  mellem to gule streger tegnet op midt på vejbanerne. Hvis man er uheldig, ja, så er der bare ingen ting, og så er det et spørgsmål om overlevelse.

Jeg mener vitterligt, at et samfund skal indrettes, så det er fordelagtigt at cykle. Det er fantastisk at cykle. Det er frisk luft, motion, mindre forurening og tidsbesparende (altså man skal virkelig bruge lang tid på at finde en ledig parkeringsplads i Geneve). Jeg fatter det ikke. Jeg synes virkelig, at der er nogle, der skal se at få fingeren ud af … næsen.

I will say it right away. I am in no way impressed with the number of bicycles compared with the number of scooters and motorbikes in Geneva. Actually, I think it is close to a disaster. Well, to drive in Geneva by car is hopeless, so I understand that people choose to ride a scooter or motorbike. Then they at least get moving. And I’m also aware of the fact that here are hills and that it during the summer can be a hot and sweaty experience to bicycle.

People are lazy and comfortable. All right, I got the point.

But for God’s sake there are some politicians in Geneva, who soon should start to take some responsibility and force people to bicycle! Just look at the picture. There are an unknown high number of parking spaces for scooters and motorbikes throughout the city, while as a cyclist you have to use minutes just to find somewhere to park you bike. And before parking your bike, you have to survive the biking tour through the town. And that is more easily said than done. Special lanes for bicycles are not an often used term in urban planning in Geneva. If you are lucky there are some yellow painted lines in the middle of the roads. These are for people on bicycles. But you are still not separated from the other traffic, so that means you’re still driving around between taxis, buses, trams, cars and other motorized two-wheelers. If you’re unlucky, there’s just nothing. No yellow lines. And then it is a matter of survival.

I believe that a society should be organized so it is an advantage to bicycle. Because it is fantastic to bicycle. It is fresh air, exercise, less pollution and timesaving (just imagine how much time people spend to find a vacant parking space for their car in Geneva). I don’t get it. I think the politicians should get their finger out and get started.
